runabay - Set to release new single ‘Lotus’ on 29th May 2017.
This dreamy, lush and harmony drenched offering, entitled ‘Lotus’ will be available in all download stores and streaming platforms from the end of this month (29th May).
Looking to build on the success of their last single ‘You I Know’ (which gained critical acclaim and international radio play on the likes of 6 music, RTE 2FM, Today FM, Amazing Radio and BBC Radio Ulster), Lotus captures wonderfully the ever-evolving journey of this accomplished band.
With shades of early Coldplay, Bon Iver and the Shins, the song builds into a crescendo that is both spine tingling and epic. Throughout the track, sweeping cello melodies and beautifully rich vocal lines delivered by Gary, Gerard and John create a hypnotic and engaging landscape. As the song develops, so too does the instrumentation which leads the song into a drums and bass style ending. This track highlights all that is wonderful about the band and is sure to help Runabay grow their sizeable fan base even further.
Notes to Editor
With humble beginnings, burrowed away in a couple of small villages in the Glens of Antrim, runabay is a six-piece band which has existed since February 2014. They have been described as alt-folk or indie, but the intricate and adventurous nature of their song writing means they rarely fit into predictable pigeonholes –
as ‘Creative Spotlights’ commented in a recent review, ‘they are so much more than a genre category could ever describe.’
runabay have been featured by the likes of Steve Lamacq (BBC 6music), Tom Robinson (BBC 6music), Ralph McLean (BBC Radio Ulster) and have even found themselves on several influential Spotify playlists. They have gained plenty of accolades including being nominated for ‘Irish single of the year’ in by M Awards in 2015.
The band’s influences include Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes and Glen Hansard among others, and with radio play and profile rapidly on the rise 2017 promises to be a landmark year for the band.
BAND LINE-UP; John McManus - Vocals/Guitar, Gary Graham Guitar/Vocals, Gerard McHugh - Vocals/Keyboard, Michael McKinney -Bass/Double Bass, Declan McCartan - Cello and Rory McAuley -Drums/Percussion
