BELFAST BASED ‘RUNABAY’ POISED TO RELEASE NEW SINGLE
“Six musicians, sublime harmonies and a cellist (for good measure) - they’re a glowing spark waiting to ignite.”
Rigsy (Anchor of BBC ‘Across the Line’- The Daily Mirror)
Following on from various 2015 successes, including a nomination for ‘Irish single of the year’ and having enjoyed a plethora of plays on national radio stations such as ‘6 Music’, ‘runabay’ will release their long awaited new single ‘Woodpecker’ on the 5th of September.
Despite only having formed in 2014, the band’s sound has evolved significantly in that short space of time, as they move into new and exciting genres. For their latest single, the band opted to work with Declan Legge (producer of Jealous of the birds and Silences’ music) to help shape the new sound.
Their new single, entitled ‘Woodpecker’ documents the decadent journey of a character who sought refuge through travel and exploration in a quest for happiness. Ingredients like the synth, experimental percussion and soaring guitars clearly highlight the sea change in sound from the Belfast six piece.
It promises to be a busy summer for the band with a host festival slots and new music coming to the fore, and will accompany their release with a series of gigs across Ireland and the UK with a special show planned with Sofar sounds (in London) on Friday 16th September.
Hailing from the Glens of Antrim and Belfast, 'runabay' is a six piece band which has been functioning since February 2014. They have been described as folk, alt-folk or indie, however as one reviewer (Creative Spotlights) commented “they are so much more than a genre category could ever describe.”
The band have been championed by the likes of Tom Robinson (6music), Ralph McLean (BBC), ‘Absolute Radio’ and popular sites like Joe.ie.
